Another Landscape

So I painted another landscape, but didn't like the way it turned out. I actually painted it upside down (from a photo). The process is suppose to help you see better but I wasn't impressed with my results so hence no photo. I hope to have more work to show next week as I'll have more down time as I "rest" more and run less in preparation for my half marathon on Saturday.

What's Lemon Got to do with It?

Okay, I decided to change it up a bit and you may be asking yourself - What's a lemon got to do with it? I have no idea, but it needed something to balance out the composition. I feel I got way too tight but I had fun with the reflections in the glass trying to get them to look right and not to over do them. Believe it or not there were alot of reflections that I ignored.

Up Close Beauty - SOLD

Well, so here's the same flower as yesterday, but just much much closer. An homage to Georgia O'keeffe? Not nearly big enough, but still. At the beginning it tuned on me and I thought it was going to be something I wipe, but I got some help from somewhere and it turned out pretty sweet. I was able to stay loose and still convey form and detail.

Spring Survivor

A nice little flower study - I was thinking about painting some daffodils but when I went outside to get one the weather had already taken its toll and they were toast, however I did find a few tulips in the flower bed and decided to paint this one. I really like how this one turned out with a minimum of brushwork - not over-worked and a simplicity about it. I cheated a little - the neck / stem on this was twice as long as you see here, but it doesn't make for a very good painting so I shortened it. Also I change my dimensions - this is a 5x6.

Green apple pieces

Well, this is one I actually did last week. I didn't like the background color behind the whole apple so I waited until it dried and painted over it. I prefer to work alla prima but it was really bugging me - I like the new bkg much better. It makes the apple pop instead of competing with it.

Radishes - 3 of a Kind

Well, I re-visited a previous subject. They were fun to paint. Post a comment and let me know what you think.....

Orange Slices Reflecting

So this week was a bad week for painting. I was getting work ready for a show, had a friend call to go paragliding, I was ramping up my running schedule, and the list of excuses goes on... However, I did manage to paint this one. I wasn't sure how to tackle the bottle - they're always so tricky, but I managed to pull it off with a minimum of brush strokes which I like. There were more highlights in the glass than I painted, but I think it's pretty convincing.

Also I should comment that I'm going to be posting less artwork. In the past I've posted some pictures to be honest that should have been wiped. I know it's cliche but good art does take time and I'm going to start taking more time with the compositions and the painting of future work. And if it doesn't turn out, I'm not going to post it. This summer I'll have a bonfire of bad paintings!
