Progress so far....

Okay so here are most of my paintings so far from January. These are all 6x6 oil on panel. I'm liking them and hope to increase my speed and be able to paint more next month. I am only 2 short of my goal, but I don't think I'm going to paint one tomorrow because I'm working on a different painting project - it's  a bit of a surprise so I won't be posting it - maybe later.

Okay, so here's a picture of my new desk. An artist friend of mine picked one of these up at a local university surplus sale. Great sturdy desk with drawers and the table top that tilts. And the killer part is that I got it for 3 dollars! Whoo Hoo! I guess they've been there for awhile and they were anxious to get rid of them. Check it out....

Untitled Orange - SOLD

Well, I decided to go with a black background and the orange stood out nicely against a dark color. It wasn't until I was done that I realized that I had painted halloween colors, but it really doesn't seem halloweenish to me despite the palette. To me it says "untitled orange." What does it say to you?

Three Green Peppers

SOLD
I haven't been painting much this week, but I managed to get one done tonight. Like all of these I like the actual painting better than I like the photo of it. i have a stupid little point and shoot and I'm shooting under artificial light, but the colors are pretty close - a little muddy and a little too green.

Well, I just might paint another one tonight - I'm not tired at all. I was when I first got home, but I had dinner - a kale, lemon, apple, ginger, celery, tomato concoction and I feel awake! Must be the effects of green energy. Perhaps this is the true source of Hal Jordan's powers? Probably not, but i sure do feel good. Enjoy!

Well this one took a little while longer - the jar was a little tricky especially the lettering. I was tempted to ignore the lettering but decided to attempt it and I like the way it turned out. I'm thinking about not selling this one - like I said I really like this one. It's late but I'm wired. Good night of painting and I got 4 done this week. Not too bad if I do say so myself.

Apple Commission

So here again with the green, but I'm getting a little tired of it. After this I'll give it a bit of a hiatus. This painting was commissioned by my 5 year old son Ryan. He wanted me to do a close-up of a cut apple and seeing how he is an Apple-holic as well as sugar-holic this commission makes sense on that level. I'm happy with the painting and the brush work. The seeds did give me a spot of concern - when I cut the apple most of the seeds fell out so what to do? I took some rubber cement and glued one of the seeds back in place so I'd remember to include it. And funny thing about cut apples - they turn brown and so toward the end of the session this rubber cemented oxidized apple wasn't looking nearly as good as the painting. I'm just happy that I'm not painting past 11 like last night!

Orange Bowl Slices

This one was a bit of an experiment. First it's 5.5 x 5.5 and second I put the gesso on with a printmaking roller so it has an almost reptilian texture to it, but very subtle. I kinda' like it. Again with the lime green background. Oranges sliced this way remind me of half-time at my soccer games. Someone's mom would always bring orange slices. I guess it was suppose to be good for goal scoring or whatnot. So hence the title even though it's not a bowl game as in football but rather "futbol"

Slice of you to Drop by - SOLD

Okay so the title is a little cheesy, but it's better than oranges number 5 - Isn't it? Again I used the lime green background. A friend hinted that she might buy a series of green and orange paintings so why not?

Orange and Green All Over - SOLD

Okay, so here are some clementines and even though this is only a 6x6 painting the painting of the clementines is much bigger than the fruit itself. Decided to use my lime green background I picked up at the fabric store the other day. I have to say I felt very out-of-place there with all the women. I think I saw one other guy there but he was with his wife. I didn't even have that going for me. Any how - I like this one and hope you do too.

Blue Cup and Egg

Well, This was a fun one to paint. At one point the cup turned on me and tried to ruin the painting - I had a hard time getting it to work, but it came across in the end. And let's face it who doesn't like a raw egg with their morning coffee?

First 6x6 Painting - Orange and White

Well, I've been inspired by others that paint on a daily basis so I've decided to enter the world of daily painting. I had a lot of fun with this painting and I thought it turned out well. I was surprised by how quickly the oranges came along, however, the bottle was a little tricker ~ I never got quite the blue green color I was looking for, but I think the end results are convincing. The hardest part was coming up with the title.
